SO 100 Project 2007

September 10, 2007

Dear Sociology Students (SO100) Class of Justin V. Nicolas:

Instead of our regular reporting, each group will be producing its own “indie” (independent) film on the topic assigned to your group. The guidelines are as follows:

Think of a format. It may be a documentary, a sitcom (situational comedy), an MTV, a information campaign video or even an advertisement. It may run from 15 to 20 minutes depending on your concept.
You are free to use any story or footage that is relevant to your topic. Ex. Social change or family planning. It may be an original concept or script. It may also be an adaptation just be sure you give credit to the original.
If you borrowed some clips from another video or if you downloaded some multimedia material from the Internet such as Youtube, please acknowledge the title and makers of the video and the source.
As seen in most films. Please provide a Title screen stating the title and the production outfit Ex. “Ang Buhay PUP handog ng MM 1-1 productions.
Provide a segment for the actors, their corresponding roles and also credits for the support staff. If you invited friends who do not belong from your group or your class please indicate as such. (Ex. Eman borrowed from the Collective Behavior group; or Kennevie as Sisa, borrowed from BSA 1-11).
Provide a preface for the film, something similar to the Videogram Warning. Ex. The following is film about Sociology particularly about Rural Community Life. Etc., etc)
Convert your film to files that are readable by common multimedia players such as Windows Media Player or Real Player. SO, it is more practical to save your film in *.mpeg or *.avi formats. Or you can include a software of a converter in your CD.
Compile your film and burn it in a CD or DVD. If you have difficulty editing it into one film, you can divide the film into several files and assign a filename to indicate the order of the files. (Ex. Jaws1.mpeg, Jaws2.mpeg, etc
Design your CD which will indicate the Title of your movie, the topic or group, and the section, and the director or leader. (Ex. Sex Education 101, by the Family Planning Group ABP 1-1, Directed by RJ)
Design a cover for the casing of the film. You can use the same design you used for the CD label. You can even include a picture of the group and the names at the back cover of the casing. On the front cover, indicate the Title, the group (ex. Collective behavior group) and the section (Ex. BOA 1-5), the director, the scriptwriter, and the actors.
Once it is packaged well, you can submit the film for evaluation. Deadline is on Sept 24, 2007 for the Monday/Thursday classes and Sept 25, 2007 for the Tuesday-Friday classes.
As for those groups who have reported already, if you feel that your report was not good enough, you are encouraged to do this project. If you think you did well already, this project is optional and will just be a bonus.
Make your life easier. Use the everyday video clips you have of your classmates and edit it into one film, or…not. OF course, if you are creative enough, you could still conceptualize and probably devote a day for shooting and another for editing and packaging.
On the day of the submission, the leader will include a small sheet of paper, folded and sealed, and inserted in the CD case. This will contain the peer rating of the group. Indicate in the slip of paper the contribution of the members and the grade (1.0, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75, 2.0, etc) you give that member for his or her participation. Please be honest as possible in rating yourselves.
The president will also email me a list of the class members with student numbers. Please send the list to angsosyoklasrum@yahoo.com

Enjoy the project! Take the opportunity to share what you have to say in this film.

Padayon,

Justin V. Nicolas

P.S. Those who were not able to take the midterm, please email me at angsosyoklasrum@yahoo.com with the subject “SO100-Missed Midterm.”
